Not “If”, but “When”…Emergency Expo Successful

September 26th’s emergency expo at Yelm High School was a huge success. “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst”, was the theme for the event and important information about preparedness and surviving a disaster situation was shared with attendees.

If you missed the expo, you can find important information about emergency management on Thurston County’s website: www.co.thurston.wa.us/em.

There will also be an international earthquake drill on Oct. 15. If you’d to participate and see how you would do in an earthquake situation, you can register at here: www.shakeout.org/washington/register.

Wildland Fire Tracking Map

Screen Shot 2015-08-21 at 9.03.33 AM

Washington State has been hit hard with wildland fires this season. If you’re interested in tracking the progress of all the fires that are burning around the state, there is a interactive map available for viewing. This online fire and wind map shows most of the fires and it should be updated every day.

You can zoom in for more detail and switch views between satellite or topographic view. If you click a cross hatch fire area, you’ll be able to view information about that particular fire (name, acres burned, percent contained, etc.).

Yelm Chamber of Commerce Honors Ksea Rogers

Ksea Rogers accepts award

Caption: Roger McMaster presents Ksea Rogers with the Yelm Chamber of Commerce First Responder Honor Award during monthly luncheon, August 11, 2015.

It was a gorgeous afternoon on August 11, 2015, a perfect day to honor one of our valued volunteer fire fighter/EMTs. Blue skies were plentiful and so was the smell of smoky BBQ. It helped make this month’s Yelm Chamber of Commerce meeting a great event.

After eating a delicious catered lunch by The Cattleman, the awards portion of the meeting began. Roger McMaster presented the Yelm Chamber of Commerce First Responder Honor Award to Ksea Rogers, which she graciously accepted.

SE Thurston Fire Authority was proud to nominate Rogers and watch as she received this well-deserved award; she is an outstanding first-responder and volunteer. SETFA nominated Rogers because she is always supporting SETFA by being first to volunteer at local community events, or responding to a call. We are so proud that Ksea Rogers is a part of our team.

Thank you Ksea, and keep up the good work!
